All for nothing?

About a week ago I ordered two books off of Indigo for my friends birthday present.  They are the first two in the trilogy Dust Lands by Moira Young.  The first one is Blood Red Road and the second is Rebel Heart.  It's been a couple years since I read them but I know they were great books when I did.  I used to be so into trilogies and dystopian fiction.

I really am hoping she hasn't read them yet because I know she's an avid reader.  When I ordered it online at like 1 in the morning haha, it said it would arrive on the 12th of October.  Accordingly, I put a mental note in my mind to go to Indigo after school and pick them up.  I was pretty excited because it isn't very often I have an excuse to 'go out' during the week.

Come the 12th, I was all hyped and ready to go.  It was going to be a long walk there ~ 40 mins but why the heck not.  I didn't bother checking my account to confirm its arrival, which I really should have.  Perhaps that's the first thing that went wrong.  The second would be I forgot the bring my book I'm currently reading called The Museum of Extraodinary Things by Alice Hoffman.  I would have preferred to be somewhat entertained on my long journey to the store.  But I forgot to bring it and ending up singing but one song on repeat: I gotta go my own way (HMS2).

When I got to the book store, the guy at the counter told me the books hadn't arrived yet.  Great.  40 minutes to get home.  Now it's the 13th and they finally arrived today so I'm gooing to go with my mom there when she gets home from work.

That is how yesterday when lol.
Anyways, this was the outfit I wore to school that day.  I layered two button ups, both thrifted, and a hand-me-down Anne Klein skirt from my mom.  It's a dark wash denim  maxi skirt and I love it to bits <3
And of course my usual rings that I adore from Forever21.

What to look forward to

I just had a 4 day weekend and am dreading this week.  Too many tests and assignments to not look forward to.  On the other hand, whilst on the 4 day break my mom and I got the chance to clear out her closet!  She's not a clothing person at all and I used to never want to wear her clothes.  However recently I've been drooling over some of the pieces she hasn't work in years.  She actually has some pretty cool gems in her closet that I'm actually excited to style and happy to call hand-me-downs :)

The only thing I'm looking forward to this week is experimenting with "new" clothes!!!!!
This gorgeous red dress has been sitting in her closet for too long and today I finally gave it the appreciation it deserves.  Does it remind you of Tommy Hilfiger?  It kind of does to me.  I just love how it buttons all the way, the elastic waist is too comfy, the collar is perfect for future cold weather layering, and it flows and hangs in such a flattering way.  Double tap double tap

My denim jacket is thrifted (only a meagre $2!!)  An outfit essential or me since its purchase.  The only thing I've been loving to bits more than my denim jacket is this pair of shoes from GH Bass.  I seriously need a new pair, they are falling a part.
It seems this outfit is heavily comprised of my essentials pieces because this rings from Forever 21 have been cruising on my fingers for days.
All in all, I'm really just stocked for the weekend.  My friend KhĂ©la (hey I do have friends besides Sena) is having her 16th birthday party at Niagara Fall whoop whoop.

I hit 100 post! ... 101 if you count this one

I noticed a few days after my last post that it was my 100th post!  The first thing that came to mind was that this was just like when your favourite TV series airs their 100th episode and we as avid viewers see Instagram posts of celebration cake and flashbacks etc.  To name one, Pretty Little Liars (can we just talk about the summer finale?! WTF)  Then I realized, I'm not going to go out of my way and purchase a celebratory cake to indulge with the members that run this blog, aka just lil ol' me.  So the feeling I suppose isn't as much of a big deal to most, but hey 100 posts is a lot.  It's cool because now this is reminding me of all the changes I've made to this blog.  The old layout and backdrop haha.  I honestly don't know how some people can write 100 posts in a year.  That's a whole lot to say in a year.

Speaking of accomplishment, this Sunday was pretty successful if your ask me.  I went for a run in the morning, took a shower, took a bunch of pictures for my Depop and handed my resume in to a Baskin Robbins near me.

I was quite nervous about walking in and applying because I wasn't sure who would be at the counter and how awkward I would be.  Also just the fact that I have applied to many jobs, just to be turned down.  The feeling of rejection is not a nice one at all.

When I told the manager I would be able to work Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays only because I had school she responded by saying she was actually looking to hire someone for the weekday shifts.  At least she still took my resume and said I would hear back this week if I got it.  I really hope I got the job.  ugh so nervous.

On another note, I was playing around with the saturation levels of these photos on Photoshop and I really liked how they turned out.  They remind me of fantasy and mystical movies and I'm going to play around with it more to refine my new found 'ability'.

P.s. I cut my hair

I tip my hat to beautifully decorated shops

Sometimes (though rarely) I look back at my old posts.  When I do I just think about how I idolized Kristina Bazan's old style and that of Blair from Atlantic Pacific.  It was thanks to their blogs that I started pushing and experimenting my style.  Blair was the first blogger I became a regular reader of and was how I found my way to creating my own blog.

Back then I fantasized over their dainty, girly outfits and expensive designer pieces.  I dreamed of owning my own Chanel bag, Gucci jacket, and YSL makeup.  I would window online shop (if you will) on all the designer websites and make wish list upon wish list.  I believe I wrote a few wish list-esk posts on here :)  Yesterday I happened to wander through that time consuming black hole of looking back at a blogger's old posts.  In this case Kristina's.  But I also read Kristina's more recent post about her style and interest shift and I could completely relate.  Though it brings back a warming feeling for recalling those earlier posts, I no longer idolize her girly style as much as I did so in the past.  Over the course of 3(?) years my style has been evolving into a unique representation of myself.  My tastes and interests are developing and I suppose I'm starting to discover a better side of myself through it all.

Beside the replaceable clothes that I wear, I've also been working on becoming a better person.  It's a constant mental struggle catching yourself doing or saying something you never intentionally wanted to, though you do subconsciously.  I'm trying to be a nicer, more compassionate, friendlier, and open person.  I've been listening to lots of 60s music ('Calendar Girl' is my current jam) and I feel like it's definitely helped put me in a more positive mood.

I'm finding it rather difficult putting my thoughts into a comprehensible way.  But another thing I'm working is my communication skills.  I want to be able to express my ideas and knowledge through my words.
A few days before I went back to school, my friend Ling-Su, and I went down to Kensington Market. They've got tons of inspiration and the shops have their own unique voice.  The soft serve shop we went to was just so lovely and exactly the up lifting environment I want my room to be.  They had loads of colour, wall decor and plants.  Definitely a winner in my books.
In loving memory of the Jonas Brother's, I actually found an old poster tucked away as I was cleaning my stack of magazines.  The vampire Diaries was on the other side so it was this or that.  Sorry TVD but you've been neglected <3.
This is one of my walls, currently a wip.  Love how it's coming together.  It's totally in your face, but I guess that too describes my style haha.

As the years go by/My current state of mind

Lately my posts have been very infrequent, I've just been focusing on other things but I still love this blog.  School has started, but I don't want to dwell too much on that.  Though I am really excited this year because I'm taking a FORENSICS course!  I've seriously been waiting to take it for 2 years now and I made sure to fast track Grade 11 Biology just so I could take it this year :)  I love crime, and investigation and really want o learn and understand the psychological aspects humans etc.  Crime documentaries are just the coolest.  The last one I watched was The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst. I totally recommend it if you're interested.  The documentary got me really intrigued in Durst so I plan an reading more books about him.
Woah I got really off track with what I was actually planning on saying but I'll leave the spontaneous writing in here haha.

Not too long back the Salvation Army Thrift Store was having their $2 Back to School promotion on most clothing in their store.  Such a deal is way too hard not to resist.  Sena and I took a bus there and had an abundant of fun looking through all the pieces and sharing a change room together.  The piece you see in the collages were all $2 in clouding the sick trousers :)  I'm actually listing them on my Depop @creaturesoftweed along with other things from my closet.  I only bought items that I knew I would absolutely adore and wear if they don't sell.  I've found my place with vintage/retro, non-mainstream style.  For most of Grade 7 and 8 I wanted so badly to own clothing from Lululemon, Aritzia, Uggs, and Canada Goose.  But it was way too expensive from our price range and I used to find cheaper 'dupe's Forever 21 and American Eagle.  I wanted so bad to fit in with what everyone else was wearing.  This phase transitioned its way into Grade 9 but fortunately started to fade as the year progressed.  I think starting this blog was a huge help in opening my eyes to other personalities out here.
I hoe you guys like the collages :) I had a bunch of old magazines from 2009.  I've never gotten into reading magazines, and I doubt I will.  What I love is cutting hem up and creating collages.  I've been doing so since I was 10.

late night movie outing

In my opinion, the hardest part about going out with your friends is actually choosing somewhere to go.  I live in the city and thought there are a lot of museums, parks, neighbourhoods etc there never seems to be anything new and exciting for us to do.  As dramatic as it seems, we've basically been to it all.  At times like these, I tend to wish I could get out of the city and explore the rest of the country and the world.

A few days ago, it suddenly dawn on me that I haven't actually been anywhere else in my country except for Quebec when I was a kid, and Guelf just recently this summer.  So as much as I have always dreamed of travelling the world, perhaps I should explore what my own country has to offer.

That  being said, Sena and I eventually decided on seeing a movie.  It was quite spontaneous, which is more exciting at times.  We went to go see the movie Nerve on Thursday and it was pretty cool.  We almost had the whole theatre to ourselves but just as the movie started a few people came in too.

I love watching movies because it feels great discovering an actor I've not really heard about but really end up liking.  It broadens my spectrum and leads me to discovering even more movies I never existed.  It's also great witnesses up and coming actors shoot to landing well deserving roles.  Though Emma Roberts and Dave Franco do make an amazing on-screen couple, there was another guy that I just loved, named Miles Hiezer.  I look forward tons being him in more movies :)  oh ya and I can't forget Nick Robinson.  He's an actor I've recently discovered and admire his talent.  Just had to add that in there since we were on the topic of movies.
My denim jacket was only two dollars from the Salvation Army Thrift Store!  The bag was from Goodwill before all its chains closed in Toronto :( The shirt is an oldie from my mom and my jeans are Aeropostale.  I love wearing blue. Blue blue blue blue blue.
Sena and I had a lot of time to kill before the show started so we ventured off the Indigo, which is a big bookstore where I live.  It's right across the theater since they're located in a "mall" I guess I would call it.  I spotted this book and am definitely adding it to my to-read list.  I want to read as many books as I can this summer.

figuring things out

These past few months I've neglected to blog, I have actually grown quite a lot.  My interests and ambitions have shifted, which is why I have been focusing on other projects beside my blog.  I'm pondering about starting a second blog dedicated to my sewing and craft projects because I'd really like to document my progress and ideas just like I am now with my style.  But the idea of having two blogs makes me feel as though I'm not very organized or consistent and I'm spreading myself too thin.  On the other hand, I'm sure it would really bug me if I archived it all onto this blog.  For now I am leaning towards creating another blog, perhaps on Wordpress because I've heard good things about it.  I just need to think of a name.

The commencing of the new month felt like a logical way to clear whatever has been on my mind and put them into writing; something I've definitely been meaning to do for a while now.

Hopefully tomorrow I can go downtown and check out some beading stores because I'm super stocked to try my hand at making crowns and jewelry.

I'm also reading and ordering lots of books since I've been deprived during the school year.

Oh ya I just saw Eddie the Eagle today and it was spectacular!  Taron Egerton is an amazing actor and the film got me so engaged and excited.

This post is starting to feel like a journal entry but I don't mind.  I've never ben one to commit to writing in a journal.  Ironic.

I suppose I'll sign off for now and include a collection of photos from the past few months and what has currently been inspiring me.  I know my blog isn't very big but it's something I think I'll also cherish and come back to even if it's only for my sake.

I'm thinking of starting another sewing project inspired my this early 1900s outfit from Downton Abbey.  The 1900s was never an era that caught my eye, but I used to watch Downton Abbey an their costumes are always fun to admire.  I thought I'd give it a go.  I bought a greenish blueish charmeuse satin fabric at the beginning of July, which will hopefully do the trick.

The renaissance era has completely changed my sewing game for sure.  I plan on making a corset and lovely gowns and beautiful headpieces.  I've definitely been doing more hand sewing and I'm loving it!

Just a little progress pictures I took of a painting I did for my mom.  Definitely was referring to Camille Pissaro but I plan I doing my own when I have the time

I visited Guelf with my mom and sister this weekend and the buildings were so dainty and beautifully constructed compared to what I'm used to seeing in the city.

I actually totally forgot about this picture until I was scrolling through my photo gallery just now but it's so sick!  Courtesy of my iPhone, oh yeah

My best friends gave my a gorgeous bracelte for my birthday and it is my all time favourite <3  Thanks Sena and Lindsay

Onto some cool pictures of head pieces I found on Pintrest.  These are getting me sooooooo excited to make my ownnnnnnn :) eeeeeee
